The Association of Metropolitan Sewerage Agencies is pleased to present the 2004 Developments in Clean Water Law Seminar at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort, in sunny San Diego, California, November 10 -12, 2004. The annual AMSA Law Seminar (Seminar) is the premier forum for public agency attorneys and managers to hear the latest from lawyers, engineers and clean water leaders on key legal and policy developments.

Law Seminar Agenda to Highlight Key Clean Water Issues
This year’s Law Seminar agenda will focus on timely legal issues and the latest developments affecting the clean water community. The Seminar will begin with an optional Clean Water Act (CWA) and Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) Overview designed for new practitioners and a refresher for the veterans. The curriculum then kicks off with speakers and panels providing in-depth discussion of new developments, recent strategies and practical approaches to help clean water professionals stay cutting edge. Some of the topics that will be explored at the Seminar include:

  • PermittingSeminar speakers will review recent judicial expansion of the NPDES permitting program as well as public agency permitting innovations;
  • Policy — Legal experts will cover existing and forthcoming regulatory drivers for wastewater and drinking water utilities, as well as stormwater litigation and policy;
  • Practice — The Seminar will provide real world advice and input on key issues such as managing construction claims;
  • PerspectiveSeminar presenters will highlight the unique public agency perspective on legal strategies, such as when to settle and when to litigate with the government or citizen groups.

Individuals attending AMSA's 2004 Law Seminar are eligible to receive Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits. AMSA is working to secure credits in a number of key states. The number of CLE credits awarded for attendance varies by state, but typically ranges from 14 -16 credits.
