Carolyn Gabel, Senior Policy Advisor to Representative Oberstar, attended AMSA's March 6 Legislative Strategy Session to discuss H.R.550 and other priorities of the Congressman. Representative Oberstar is the Ranking Democrat on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. The bill serves as the first effort this Congress to effectively address nonpoint source control. AMSA plans to closely track its progress and provide input when Association positions are finalized.

A bill to amend the wetland conservation provisions of the Food Security Act of 1985 and the Federal Water Pollution Control Act to permit the unimpeded use of privately owned crop, range and pasture lands that have been used for the planting of crops or the grazing of livestock in a least five of the preceding ten years.
