This year’s conference, Sustainable Systems, will focus critical information and key approaches to sustain clean water infrastructure; the utility workforce; security and emergency preparedness; and, the environment.
Conference to Feature EPA’s Perspectives on
Sustainability
Benjamin Grumbles, the newly confirmed Assistant Administrator
for Water at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has been invited to
keynote the first day of the 2005 Winter Conference with an address focusing on
Sustainable Water Infrastructure for the 21st Century. As a nation, we
are challenged to ensure that we can keep pace with the infrastructure needs of
the future. The question up for debate, is simply how to best meet those needs.
EPA believes that much of the solution to the gaping funding gap can be found in
the innovative responses they describe as the Four Pillars of Sustainable
Infrastructure. Beginning with this keynote, and then throughout the
conference program, these four approaches will be explored: Better Management;
Full-Cost Pricing, Efficient Water Use; and, Watershed Approaches to Protection
and their implications for sustainable infrastructure.
Keith Harrell — Sure to Motivate & Inspire Attendees
The conference’s February 3rd keynote address will feature
renowned motivational speaker Keith Harrell, author of Attitude Is
Everything: Ten Life Changing Steps to Turning Attitude into Action. Harrell
is the ideal person to focus both attention and energy on the need for clean
water agencies to embrace the role they plan in protecting the environment.
Through humorous and engaging remarks, Harrell will address the need to develop
and maintain a positive organizational culture to support the key role utilities
play in protecting and sustaining America’s water resources.
Panels & Roundtables Discussions to Provide Insights
The conference program will also feature a number of panel
presentations and roundtable discussions providing important detail to support
key concepts discussed. They include:
- Better Management – Maintaining the Momentum (with a focus on asset management)
- Rates on the Rise – An Inside Look at Rate Setting Studies & Strategies
