The Fourth AMSA-EPA Pretreatment Coordinators Workshop will be held on November 5-7, 1997, at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott Hotel in Norfolk, Virginia. This joint forum will bring together considerable expertise from local and state governments, and EPA regions and Headquarters to discuss opportunities to enhance the current and future direction of the national pretreatment program. This year's program continues to build on the popularity of the annual event, first sponsored by AMSA in 1990, as a forum for pretreatment coordinators from around the country.

Discussion topics for the joint AMSA-EPA workshop on November 5-7 will include sessions on EPA pretreatment program updates, national pretreatment programs awardee presentations, pretreatment reinvention, local limits development, impact of privatization on pretreatment programs, regional breakouts, and panel discussions on special wastes and innovative approaches to pretreatment programs.

Attached is a registration form and a preliminary program for the Workshop. All interested participants should complete the attached questionnaire by September 19 in order to develop questions that you would like addressed on the topics chosen for the workshop sessions.

The joint AMSA-EPA Workshop allows pretreatment coordinators from around the country to meet and network with their peers to share experiences, identify problem issues in pretreatment, and work together on solutions. The workshop format is designed to maximize interaction among the attendees and to allow everyone to actively participate. The topics for discussion were identified by local, regional, state, and EPA pretreatment coordinators who attended last year's workshop in Miami, Florida. Based on your input to the attached questionnaire, we will prepare and distribute a list of specific issues and questions to be covered during the Workshop in a separate mailing prior to the meeting.

Please note that the hotel reservation deadline is October 13; the workshop registration deadline is October 24. Because of the joint nature of this workshop, interested participants are encouraged to register early, as space is limited and will only be guaranteed up until this date.

Please call Sam Hadeed, AMSA's Director of Regulatory Affairs &Technical Services, at (202) 833-4655 if you have any questions regarding the program or would like to offer any suggestions or questions that you would like addressed during the session discussions. Questions regarding registration should be directed to Jackie Hamilton, at (202) 833-4656.
