Subject:PEAK PERFORMANCE AWARDS PROGRAM (FORMERLY GOLD & SILVER AWARDS)
Reference: MU 98-2

AMSA's Gold & Silver Awards Program has a new name - the Peak Performance Awards. The new name was created to accommodate the inclusion of a new awards category, the Platinum Award, which AMSA created in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of AMSA's Gold and Silver Awards. The Platinum Awards recognize 100% compliance with NPDES permits over a consecutive five-year period.

The first Platinum Awards will be given to facilities with a consistent record of full NPDES compliance for the calendar years of 1993 through 1997. Enclosed is a list of facilities that, based on AMSA's records, are eligible for this year's Platinum Award if they once again attain full compliance in 1997. If your agency has a facility that you believe is eligible, but is not included on the list, please fax a copy of your Gold Award certificates from the past four years to Sharon Powell at AMSA (FAX: 202/833-4657).

As in the past, Gold and Silver Awards will be given to recognize compliance with NPDES permits during 1997. Facilities with no NPDES permit violations qualify for AMSA's Gold Award. Facilities with no more than five NPDES violations qualify for AMSA's Silver Award. All eligible POTWs must provide at least secondary treatment, or advanced primary treatment with a 301 waiver, and have a minimum capacity of 2 MGD.

A facility may submit their application for the Silver and Gold Awards in three ways :

  1. Complete the attached form and submit it via mail to George Barnes (see address on reverse side).

  2. Open this Member Update online under the "What's New" section of the Member Pipeline at AMSA's web site, http://www.amsa-cleanwater.org. The form, in Excel, will be provided as an attachment. Download, complete, and submit via e-mail to George Barnes at gbarnes@jjg.com.

  3. Call Sharon Powell (spowell@amsa-cleanwater.org) at AMSA (202/ 833-1449) and ask her to e-mail the Excel submission form to you. Complete and submit the form via e-mail to George Barnes at gbarnes@jjg.com.
If the survey form is not adequate to show all permit requirements and discharge results, it may be modified or a separate tabulation may be submitted by e-mail. Please use an Excel spreadsheet where possible and include monthly flow data even if flow is not a permit limit. The flow data is needed to prepare statistical information for the Annual Meeting in May. For example, if the permit has daily or other limits, the tabulation should list these and indicate the number of violations. Please provide the requested plant performance and permit limits information even if you choose to also provide a summary of the number of violations for each facility.

AMSA's Peak Performance Awards will be announced during the 1998 National Environmental Policy Forum & 28th Annual Meeting in Washington, DC, as well as in the Clean Water News.

Please forward your completed form and a copy of the NPDES permit discharge requirements, by the March 13 deadline, to:
