AMSA's Peak Performance Awards Program, recognizes the achievement of member agencies in meeting NPDES permit requirements. It has honored growing numbers of AMSA member agency facilities since its inception in 1987 and continues this year by recognizing member agency achievements for treatment results for the calendar year 1998.

There are three categories of Peak Performance Awards, Platinum, Gold, and Silver. The criteria for each award is as follows:

Platinum Awards recognize 100% compliance with NPDES permits over a consecutive five-year period.. Platinum Awards will be given to facilities with a consistent record of full NPDES compliance for the calendar years of 1994 through 1998. Attached is a list of facilities that, based on AMSA's records, are eligible for this year's Platinum Award if they once again attain full compliance in 1998. If your agency has a facility that you believe is eligible, but is not included on the list, please fax a copy of your Gold Award certificates from the past four years to Sharon Powell at AMSA (FAX: 202/833-4657).

Gold Awards are presented to facilities with no NPDES permit violations in 1998.

Silver Awards are presented to facilities with no more than five NPDES violations.

All eligible POTWs must provide at least secondary treatment, or advanced primary treatment with a 301h waiver, and have a minimum capacity of 2 MGD.

A facility may submit their application for the Peak Performance Awards in three ways :

  1. Complete the attached form and submit it via mail to George Barnes (1122 Zimmer Drive, Atlanta, GA 30306),
  2. Open this Member Update online under the “What's New” section of the Member Pipeline at AMSA's web site, http://www.amsa-cleanwater.org. The form, in Excel, will be provided as an attachment. Download, complete, and submit via e-mail to George Barnes at gbarnes@jjg.com. (A password is needed to enter AMSA's Member Pipeline. Passwords were forwarded to AMSA member agency lead representatives. Please contact your agency's representative regarding access to AMSA's Member Pipeline.)
  3. Contact Sharon Powell at AMSA (202/833-1449 or spowell@amsa-cleanwater.org) to receive an application via e-mail. Complete and submit the form via e-mail to George Barnes at gbarnes@jjg.com.

If the survey form is not adequate to show all permit requirements and discharge results, it may be modified or a separate table may be submitted by e-mail. Please use an Excel spreadsheet where possible and include monthly flow data even if flow is not a permit limit. The flow data is needed to prepare statistical information for the Annual Meeting in May. For example, if the permit has daily or other limits, the table should list these and indicate the number of violations. Please provide the requested plant performance and permit limits information even if you choose to also provide a summary of the number of violations for each facility.

The winners of all Peak Performance Awards are announced at the Awards Luncheon during AMSA's National Environmental Policy Forum & 29th Annual Meeting, May 22-26, 1999, in Washington, DC. Recipients of Platinum Awards are invited to accept their award in person. Recipients of Gold & Silver awards will receive their certificates by mail. All award-winning facilities will be showcased in the June edition of the AMSA Clean Water News.

Please forward your completed form and a copy of the NPDES permit discharge requirements, by the March 3, 1999 deadline, to:
