Subject: AMSA Engineering News-Record Supplement — Utility Leadership in the New Millenium
Reference: MU 99-11

To inform the public of utility leadership initiatives and generate interest in AMSA's upcoming winter meeting, the Association has published a special supplement to McGraw-Hill's Engineering News-Record (ENR) magazine. This year's supplement centers on the theme Utility Leadership in the New Millennium, which will also be the theme of AMSA's winter conference in Albuquerque, N.M., February 1-4, 2000. The publication features articles from several authors offering their views on leadership.

The ENR special supplement, Utility Leadership in the New Millennium, includes valuable perspectives on organizational and utility leadership from AMSA President Kumar Kishinchand, Seattle Public Utilities Managing Director Diana Gale and Seattle Public Utilities Strategic Policy Director Paul Reiter, Organizational Leadership experts Dr. Noel Tichy and Dr. Wiliam Allen, Risk Communications consultant Dr. Peter Sandman and President and CEO of Severn Trent Environmental Services, Rennie Quinn.

With regulatory and financial challenges driving sweeping changes in the drinking water and wastewater industry, AMSA, the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies, the American Water Works Association and the Water Environment Federation, along with professionals throughout the field, have recognized that leadership is the most crucial factor for water and wastewater utilities to adjust to change. AMSA and these other organizations are in the process of developing a Utility Leadership Center, which is expected to get off the ground in spring 2000.

With Utility Leadership in the New Millennium, AMSA is pleased to present some of the best thinking on the increasingly important subject of utility leadership, which should benefit all AMSA members.

We have provided you with 20 copies to share with your elected officials, city councils and supervisory boards to inform them of the initiatives envisioned by water and wastewater utilities to meet the challenges of the new millennium. A limited number of extra copies are available on request.
