Sewer Group Asks for Funds for Upgrades
Washington - An association representing local sewer and water districts has written letters to several Senate and House committees and subcommittees asking for increased funding for revolving loans that help pay for upgrading the nation's wastewater and drinking water systems.
The Association of Metropolitan Sewerage Agencies wrote to appropriations committees and Veterans Association-Housing and Urban Development subcommittees asking for increased funding for the Clean Water State Revolving Loan Fund and the Drinking Water State Revolving Loan Fund.
The coalition is seeking $5.2 billion for the programs, more than double the current funding, which would help local communities repair and replace aging plants and decaying pipelines. The upgrades are necessary to ensure public health and restore the health of America's lakes, rivers and other bodies of water, according to an association statement.
