1998 Nomination Guidance for the EPA Beneficial Use of
Biosolids Awards Program

Enclosed, for your information, is a brochure containing the nomination guidance for the 1998 EPA Beneficial Use of Biosolids Awards Program: For Operating Projects, Technology Development, and Public Acceptance. Because this program involves both National and Regional awards, the Association encourages its member agencies to submit applications for consideration of such recognition.

The brochure describes the awards program in detail and gives guidance for preparing and submitting nominations. Nominations will be accepted to recognize excellence in a wide range of activities that have stimulated beneficial use of municipal biosolids. National awards will be presented in the following four categories:

  • Operating projects (large & small);
  • Technology development activities;
  • Research activities; and
  • Public acceptance activities.

These awards help demonstrate the operational viability of biosolids management practices which beneficially use biosolids in a manner which is environmentally safe, economically attractive, and acceptable to the public. Applicants should check with their Regional Office contact (see page 9) for any Region-specific nomination guidance and submission deadlines. The tentative deadlines (see page 9) indicate the submission deadlines, which range from mid-March to early June 1998, for each of the EPA regions.

The 1998 National Beneficial Use of Biosolids Awards will be announced in October 1998 at the Annual Water Environment Federation (WEF) Conference and Exposition (WEFTEC) in Orlando, Florida.
