AMSA Members Requested to Contact Congress
The Senate Appropriations Committee is expected to approve EPA’s budget for fiscal year (FY) 2005 when they mark up the VA-HUD & Independent Agencies appropriations bill on September 21. The bill is expected to provide $1.34 billion in funding for the Clean Water State Revolving Loan Fund (CWSRF). The FY 2005 House version of the VA-HUD & Independent Agencies appropriations bill provides only $850 million for the CWSRF program.Following the Senate Appropriations Committee action, lawmakers will have to negotiate the difference between the two funding levels. Members of Congress who support the $1.34 billion funding level have asked AMSA and other stakeholder groups to support them in this effort by sending letters and calling their congressional delegations.
AMSA requests its members to send letters to their Representatives and Senators urging them to support the $1.34 billion appropriation level in the Senate VA-HUD & Independent Agencies appropriations bill for the Clean Water State Revolving Loan Fund. The House Appropriations Committee cut of 37% to the CWSRF would result in decreased water quality, lost jobs and delayed investment in much-needed wastewater infrastructure.
It’s easy to quickly contact your Senators and Representatives! We have developed a sample letter for you to personalize and email or fax to your Congressional delegation. You can download it from Write Congress Now, which is located on the home page of AMSA’s website at www.amsa-cleanwater.org.
We also encourage you to send a copy of your letter to the District office of your Representative and the local offices of your Senators with a note that asks them to support the Senate CWSRF funding level.
Upon completion of your letters, please forward a copy to AMSA's Lee Garrigan by fax (202/833-4657) or email (lgarrigan@amsa-cleanwater.org). If you have any questions or would like further assistance, please contact Lee at 202/833-4655. Thank you for your time and attention to this very important issue.
