Congressional Inquiry on Wastewater Treatment Plant Security
> > CANCELLED < <
In response to concerns raised by several of AMSA's members, we have decided to cancel the survey sent to you yesterday, Tuesday, September 18, entitled Congressional Inquiry on Wastewater Treatment Plant Security.
To ensure the integrity of security measures at individual utilities and to safeguard confidential information, please do not respond to the survey questions. Additionally, all responses that AMSA has received will be destroyed.
Because Congressional staff developed the survey, we have notified the House Subcommittee on Water Resources and the Environment that AMSA will not be going forward with the survey. We do, however, expect Congress to proceed with one or more hearings on wastewater treatment plant security. AMSA will seek out ways to cooperate with Congress to the maximum extent possible on this critical issue.
In the coming weeks and months, AMSA will take an active, leading role in assisting its members adequately to prepare for and respond to security threats. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Christine Whitman is also engaged in an early review of the status of wastewater treatment plant security in the U.S.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. We welcome any questions, comments or concerns regarding this issue. If you have any questions or suggestions, please call AMSA's Lee Garrigan at 202/833-4655.
