AMSA Urges Swift Member Reply on Stimulus Package
In response to Congressional staff requests, AMSA urges its members to contact Lee Garrigan at 202/833-2672 or via e-mail at lgarrigan@amsa-cleanwater.org by close of business Monday with information concerning ready-to-go wastewater infrastructure construction projects for potential funding in the upcoming stimulus package being discussed in Congress. Because of the hurried nature of the stimulus package, AMSA needs the following information without delay your agencys name, the type of project/s that is/are ready-to-go, and the amount of money that could be spent on said project/s. These should be projects that have made it through the design stage and, if federal funding is made available in the stimulus package, could be spent without delay. This information will be forwarded to key Senate staff. Based on initial information received from drinking water and wastewater utilities, the Water Infrastructure Network (WIN) sent a letter to key Congressional leaders Oct. 5 available at http://www.amsa-cleanwater.org/private/legreg/outreach/10-05-01lettertohastert.pdf indicating that at least $5 billion could be spent immediately on ready-to-go construction projects such as pipe repair, but the success of this effort hinges on local agency information. AMSA will continue its discussion with key Congressional staff for the inclusion of wastewater infrastructure funds in the stimulus package and will update its members in a timely manner of its progress. Thank you in advance for your help.
