AMSA's 2000 Winter Conference . . .It's Sooner Than You Think!
With all that will take place between now and the new year, early February undoubtedly seems light years away. Just as the National Office is busy planning the program and events for AMSA's 2000 Winter Conference, Utility Leadership in the New Millennium, we hope that you've begun to make plans to attend. The Winter Conference will be held February 1-4, 2000, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. With scenic New Mexico as its site, a dynamic program focusing on the many challenges and opportunities facing public utility leaders today and an excellent hotel rate ($105/night) this is one conference worth planning ahead for.
The conference will feature presentations on the knowledge, skills and techniques necessary to effectively run a public utility, while also focusing close attention on the distinction between management and leadership and fostering leadership at all levels of an organization. Workshop sessions promise to be substantive and engaging and will focus on new, or soon-to-be available, resources for utility leaders. They will include a preview of the Utility Leadership Center; the AMSA/Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies Creating High Performance Business Services handbook; the AMSA/Water Environment Research Foundation database for publicly owned treatment works, Clean Water Central; the AMSA/Water & Wastewater Equipment Manufacturers Association Procurement Dialogue, and AMSA's 1999 Financial Survey.
The conference's keynote will be provided by Patrick Lencioni, an author and consultant specializing in organizational development and executive coaching. Lencioni has worked with thousands of executives and managers on leadership issues. His newest book, The Five Temptations of a CEO, asserts that success as a leader can come down to practicing a few difficult-to-master behaviors.
