Reunion A & BJoin NACWA During WEFTEC for its Annual Hot Topics Breakfast
NACWA invites you to join us for the annual Hot Topics Breakfast, which will be held in conjunction with WEFTEC 2006, on Tuesday, October 24, 2006, from 8:00 am – 10:30 am, at the Hyatt Regency in Dallas, Texas. The Breakfast will take place in the Reunion A&B rooms on the lobby level of the Hyatt Regency, which is the WEFTEC headquarters hotel. The first hour will be dedicated to a discussion with our guests from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and will be followed by an in-depth session, titled Succession Planning at the Top....Lessons Learned, that will explore successful succession planning strategies for public agency executive-level staff.Key EPA Officials to Address the Latest Activity on Priority Clean Water Issues
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) officials from a range of program offices will be on hand to discuss their work on the issues that most directly impact the clean water community. These issues include EPA’s response to a D.C. Circuit Court decision defining the word “daily” in total maximum “daily” loads, the current status of the Agency’s proposed peak wet weather flows policy, next steps toward a viable sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) policy, the Agency’s ongoing efforts in the wastewater security and sustainable infrastructure arenas, and more. The discussion will take place as an informal roundtable and will give NACWA members a unique opportunity to speak with top policy-makers on these and other critical clean water issues.Bring Your Commissioners and Board Members to Explore Succession Planning
NACWA is also pleased to announce that the Hot Topics Breakfast will feature an informative session on succession planning. This session, aptly titled Succession Planning at the Top....Lessons Learned, will provide a unique opportunity for utility leaders to bring their commissioners, board members, and other municipal elected and appointed officials to explore how to develop a strong succession plan. The first part of this session will feature Sondra Smalley, who has owned her own consulting business for over 20 years and has worked with large corporations and public agencies at the local, state and federal level on executive development activities and succession planning strategies. Sondra’s breadth of succession planning experience also includes her work with the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD) in Cleveland to establish a succession plan for NEORSD’s top executives. Her experiences with NEORSD will be a focus of her presentation. She will then facilitate a discussion of lessons learned by several utility leaders and Board members who have undertaken succession planning processes for executive-level staff, with a particular focus on deciding whether to stay in house or conduct external searches for executive replacements.Visit NACWA’s Booth During WEFTEC
