Legal Affairs Committee to Convene at WEFTEC
AMSA's Legal Affairs Committee is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, October 17, 2000 from 8:00 am-10:00 am during WEFTEC '00, the Water Environment Federation's 73nd Annual Conference and Exposition, in Anaheim, California. You are invited to attend this informative breakfast meeting that is open to all AMSA member agencies and their counsels. The committee meeting will be held in the Newport Beach/Rancholas Palmas Rooms at the Anaheim Marriott Hotel and will focus on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) continuing programs as well as future EPA initiatives. The National Office is inviting a number of EPA officials to lead the discussion.AMSA has reserved a small block of guest rooms at the Anaheim Marriott (700 W. Convention Way) for AMSA members and counsel that are planning to attend the Legal Affairs Committee meeting. The rooms are available from Saturday, October 14, through Thursday, October 19, at the rate of $158/178 (single/double)/night. If you wish to attend the committee meeting and make your hotel reservation through AMSA, please complete the attached Response Form or contact Lisa DuBois at 202/833-3692 or ldubois@amsa-cleanwater.org. Please be sure to provide the dates you need hotel accommodations, your room preferences and a credit card number for billing purposes. To reserve a room in AMSA's block you must contact the National Office by close of business on Friday, September 15, 2000.

Legal Seminar Planned for November
All member agency representatives, especially legal staff, should mark their calendars for AMSA/Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies' (AMWA) 2000 Law Seminar, Developments in Water and Wastewater Law . . . A Seminar for Public Agency Attorneys. The third-annual law seminar will be held on November 1-3 at the Sheraton crescent in Phoenix, Arizona. The Seminar will begin with a one-day, classroom-style introductory water & wastewater Primer that will focus on the basics of the Clean Water Act and the Safe Drinking Water Act. The Primer will serve as a refresher for practitioners and as an introduction for newcomers. The Primer will be followed by the 2000 Law Seminar, Developments in Water & Wastewater Law, which will provide a unique opportunity to hear the latest thinking on recent legal developments and their potential impacts on drinking water and wastewater utilities. Presentations by prominent attorneys will be featured, and attendees will be eligible to receive Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits.Additional information on the seminar, including registration and hotel information, will be forwarded to member representatives and agency counsels in the near future.
