Legislative Update
April 1997
To: Members & Subscribers
From: National Office
Date: April 1997 (current to April 22, 1997)
The National Office is pleased to provide you with the
April 1997 Legislative Update. Following are instructions
on how to use this Update, as well as listing of those
bills currently being tracked by the National Office. The Legislative
Update is a monthly service of the Association of Metropolitan
Sewerage Agencies.
Congress was on recess for much of the end of March and beginning
of April. Since reconvening, there have been several hearing
in both Chambers devoted to the budget of the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency for 1998. To date, no budget bills have been
introduced.
Members have been slow to act on identified priority legislation.
The House has yet to introduce a comprehensive Superfund legislation
and the Senate has not proceeded on its Superfund bill beyond
initial hearings held in March. Several interstate waste/flow
control bills have been introduced in both Chambers, but conversations
with staff members have indicated that the bills will not see
any significant action in the near future.
The National Office will continue to keep members informed of
all significant developments through Legislative Alerts
and monthly Updates. If you have any questions regarding
any legislative initiatives, please contact Paula Dannenfeldt
(202/833-4654) or Christy Kettell (202/833-3692).
