The Senate Appropriations Committee and the Subcommittee on VA-HUD-Independent Agencies have not included in next year's budget for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) AMSA's request of $1 million to fund the activities of the National Biosolids Partnership (NBP) for fiscal year (FY) 2003.

Because one of your Senators is a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee (see attached Committee list), we are asking you to immediately contact your Senator. Please write a letter urging your Senator to request that the full $1 million for the NBP be included in EPA's budget for FY 2003. We also urge you to call your Senator to reiterate your support for the NBP program. AMSA's partner in the NBP, the Water Environment Federation, also is requesting their members to take immediate action to secure full funding for the NBP for FY 2003.

Contact your Senator as soon as possible! We have developed a sample letter (attached) for you to personalize and fax or email to your Senator. You also can download it from Write Congress Now, which is located on the AMSA website's homepage at www.amsa-cleanwater.org. A copy of the AMSA NBP petition signed by members at the AMSA Winter conference in February 2002 in support of full funding for the NBP is attached for your convenience.

Upon completion of your letter, please forward a copy to AMSA's Lee Garrigan by fax (202/833-4657) or email (lgarrigan@amsa-cleanwater.org). If you have any questions or would like further assistance, please contact Lee at 202/833-4655. Thank you for your time and attention to this very important issue.
