Summit
The National Office is pleased to invite you to attend the
World Watershed Summit, taking place October 1 - November 1 in Washington,
DC at the J.W. Marriott Hotel, an event co-sponsored by AMSA, the Association of
State & Interstate Water Pollution Control Administrators (ASIWPCA), the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), U.S. Department of the Interior, and U.S.
Department of Agriculture, among others. The World Watershed Summit is
the culminating event of the Year of Clean Water and part of the ongoing
celebration of the Clean Water Act’s 30th anniversary. The World Watershed
Summit will bring together a broad array of local, state, national and
international watershed stakeholders to discuss major water quality issues they
face and share innovative ways to address them. If you are interested in
exploring the cutting edge issues surrounding watershed management and the many
innovative strategies that are available to make it work, the World Watershed
Summit will be a good place to start.

AMSA has helped put together several of the sessions to help bring an urban watershed management focus to the World Watershed Summit and to demonstrate the types of challenges and approaches which work at the local level. Among the sessions which should be of particular interest to AMSA members, are the following:

Attendees of the World Watershed Summit will also be able to take part in a special dinner commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Clean Water Act. President George W. Bush has been invited to speak at the dinner, and many other dignitaries are expected to attend including EPA Administrator Christine Todd Whitman, Agriculture Secretary Ann M. Veneman, and Interior Secretary Gale A. Norton.
