AMSA Urges Members to Identify Critical Research Needs
AMSA is soliciting research project ideas in order to provide the
Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF) with a list of recommendations for
consideration as WERF sets its research agenda for the next year. As part of its
agenda setting activities, WERF will host its first joint Research Council and
Subscriber Meeting on March 18-19, 2004 in Phoenix, Arizona. The meeting is open
to all WERF subscribers. Additional details are available on WERF’s website at:
http://www.werf.org/Press/RCMeeting.cfm. This meeting presents a unique
opportunity for the wastewater community to influence the direction of WERF’s
future research activities and AMSA encourages its members who are also WERF
subscribers to consider attending the meeting. AMSA plans to present its list of
research priorities to WERF in advance of the meeting and to participate
actively in the discussion.
Submittal Deadline Is February 27, 2004!
AMSA is accepting project ideas until February 27, 2004. Project
ideas can encompass any aspect of wastewater treatment. Your submittal should
include the following elements: a brief description of the idea/need, a proposed
project title, the rationale for the project (i.e., why is it needed?), and
recommended objective(s), approach, and desired product(s) or outcome. Project
descriptions should not exceed one typewritten page.
Given the number and diversity of potential research projects, submittals received by AMSA before the deadline will be reviewed by the Association’s Regulatory Policy Committee. The Committee will deliberate to identify the 3-5 highest priority projects in each of the three main WERF research areas: collection and treatment, human health, and watersheds and ecosystems. Those projects not identified by the Regulatory Policy Committee as “priority projects” will also be forwarded to WERF as important projects for Foundation consideration.
To submit your project ideas, or if you have any questions, please contact Chris Hornback, AMSA’s Director of Regulatory Affairs at chornback@amsa-cleanwater.org or by phone at 202/833-9106. Again, we encourage AMSA members who are also WERF subscribers to attend the WERF meeting in Phoenix. We ask that you notify Chris Hornback should you plan to attend. Thank you in advance for providing this valuable information.
