Join NACWA in Kansas City – Help Shape Our
Strategic Agenda on Key Emerging Issues
NACWA has been hard at work solidifying plans for 2007 with a major
focus on emerging and ongoing clean water challenges and opportunities. The
coming year brings with it a number of important milestones, not the least of
which is the 35th anniversary of the Clean Water Act. Add to that the
possibility of new leadership in Congress, and the stage is set for NACWA to
take the lead in formulating a strategy that achieves workable, watershed-based
results. Planning this bold agenda will take place at an important Strategic
Watershed Agenda . . . an Action Planning Session December 12 from 8:00 am –
3:00 pm at the Kansas City Marriott Country Club Plaza. Registration for this
event is complimentary. NACWA will host a welcoming reception December 11 at the
hotel.
NACWA is pleased to have LaJuana Wilcher as the facilitator for this planning session. LaJuana served as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Assistant Administrator for Water and, most recently, as Kentucky’s Secretary for the Environmental and Public Protection Cabinet. Her extensive experience with NACWA and clean water issues will be invaluable in guiding participants to share their insights, opinions, and experiences on the roles and responsibilities of clean water agencies and the strategic next steps the Association should take on several emerging watershed-based issues. The information and perspectives gathered will help guide NACWA’s upcoming revision of its Strategic Plan and the Association’s advocacy agenda for 2007 on key issues, including:
- Cross-cutting clean water and drinking water issues;
- Stormwater control challenges;
- Nonpoint source control and the importance of Farm Bill negotiations;
- The increasing use of green infrastructure techniques;
- The use of wetlands for treatment;
- The growing water quality challenges associated with septic systems; an
- Collection system issues
NACWA is drafting a white paper further developing these issues, which will serve as a “strawman” for the facilitated session’s discussion. The Association expects to distribute this white paper to session registrants by December 1.
Attendance capacity for this meeting is limited, so please
register as soon as possible and not later than November 20, to receive
NACWA’s special room rate of $125 at the Kansas City Marriott Country Club Plaza.
Again, registration is complimentary and can be completed online at NACWA’s
webpage (http://www.nacwa.org/meetings/06aps/).
Hotel reservations can be made by calling 816/531-3000. Please make sure you let
