NACWA is delighted to provide members with an easily accessible link to its discussion paper that will be used as the framework for its Strategic Watershed Agenda . . . an Action Planning Session, scheduled for December 12 in Kansas City, Mo. The Planning Session is designed to engage NACWA members in a discussion on charting a course for the Association that is both green and focused on strategic partnerships while maintaining a commitment to its core issues. The coming year brings with it a new Congress as well as the 35th anniversary of the Clean Water Act. NACWA views this as an opportune time to build on its traditional advocacy agenda and explore new initiatives to advance the goals of the clean water community.

With more than 55 participants, NACWA believes the Planning Session will help place the Association on a solid strategic footing in its effort to address six key issue areas: 1) clean water, drinking water, and water reuse; 2) nonpoint sources of pollution; 3) urban/suburban stormwater; 4) wetlands; 5) green infrastructure; 6) septic and decentralized systems; and 7) collection systems. These topics are described in the discussion paper, which is posted on NACWA’s website (www.nacwa.org) at Correspondence & Outreach under the Regulatory tab of the Member Pipeline.

NACWA recognizes that not everyone is able to attend the Kansas City, Mo., meeting but welcomes comment from your agency on any or all of the issue areas outlined in this discussion paper. These ideas will be incorporated into a report to be developed in the weeks following the Planning Session. Those of you attending the meeting can disregard this Update, but please be prepared to discuss your ideas December 12.

Please send comments or inquiries about this discussion paper to Susan Bruninga, NACWA Director of Public Affairs, at sbruninga@nacwa.org by December 22, 2006.
