Under the current AMSA Bylaws, the term of office for nine Board Members will expire at the annual meeting this May. The Board members from Regions IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX and X are either eligible for re-election or have served three full three-year terms and will vacate their seats in May. An additional seat in Region VII is also open through resignation. Finally Region X now has 16 members making the Region eligible for a third Board seat. The Board members up for re-election and the vacant seats are as follows:

Region IV	Michael McWeeny Hillsborough County Public Utilities Department (Eligibility expires in 1999)
	Gordon R. Garner Louisville & Jefferson County Metropolitan Sewer District
Region V	Jon L. Olson Rock River Water Reclamation District (Eligibility expires in 1999)
Region VI	Michael D. Luers Pine Bluff Wastewater Utility (Eligibility expires in 1999)
Region VII	Gurnie C. Gunter Kansas City Water Services Department
	John F. Koeper Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District (Resigned)
Region VIII	Robert W. Hite Metro Wastewater Reclamation District
Region IX	Susan C. Hamilton City of San Diego Metropolitan Wastewater Department
	Michele M. Pla San Francisco Public Utilities Commission
Region X	William L. Pugh City of Tacoma, Public Works Department
	New Vacant Seat

With three of the Board member seats set to expire in 1998, only six of the aforementioned Board Members are eligible for re-election to a three year term. The vacated seat in Region VII is for a one year term, and the new seat in Region X is for a two year term. In accordance with Association Bylaws, member agencies in affected regions are asked to identify individuals to represent the region using a format that ensures each member in the region has an opportunity to be considered for nomination. (See attached lists for regions IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, and X )

In order to be considered by the Nominating Committee, nominees should have a minimum of one other AMSA member from their region, other than themselves, support their nomination in writing. Thus, an individual desiring to be on the Board may nominate themselves, but must solicit the support of one other member agency from their region. If, as a result of nominations, there are two or more members from a region meeting the qualifications, the Nominating Committee shall oversee a vote of regional AMSA members. The Committee will report nominations to the entire membership for election at the Annual Meeting in Washington, DC in May. Alternatively, any member may have his or her name placed in nomination from the floor of the members meeting when elections are before the assembly.

Please keep in mind as you move through the nominating process that eligibility for election to the Board is limited to those individuals who have been designated as their agency's representative to the Association. Please also note the following specific duties and responsibilities of the Board as you consider potential nominees:

• Establish annual Association goals
• Manage the Association's finances, including approving the annual budget and recommending an appropriate dues structure to the membership
• Allocate Association resources
• Approve programs and activities of the Association's committees and provide oversight of such committees
• Adopt Association positions and policy statements on an interim basis
• Manage the Association's activities through policy guidance and directives to the Executive Director and oversight of staff activities
• Establish relationships with other organizations
• Authorize participation in litigation
• Ensure orderly long-range planning for the Association
