05/29/03
On May 19, Thomas R. "Buddy" Morgan, General Manager of the Water Works and
Sanitary Sewer Board of the City of Montgomery, was elected and installed as
President of the Board of Directors for the Association of Metropolitan Sewerage
Agencies (AMSA). In his role as President, Mr. Morgan will be a national
spokesperson for publicly owned treatment works (POTWs) and will be involved in
shaping national environmental policies. Mr. Morgan was officially elected
during the 2003 National Environmental Policy Forum &33rd Annual Meeting, which
was head recently in Washington, D.C.
AMSA is a national organization involved in all facets of water quality
protection. The organization represents the interests of the country's
wastewater treatment agencies, who collectively treat and reclaim more than 17
billion gallons of wastewater each day. AMSA maintains a key role in the
development of environmental legislation, and works closely with federal
regulatory agencies in the implementation of environmental programs.
The organization was established in 1970 and is comprised of representatives
from POTWs throughout the nation. Over the past three decades, AMSA has built
credible, collaborative relationships with members of Congress, Presidential
administrations and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In doing this,
AMSA has become a nationally recognized leader in environmental policy and a
sought-after technical resource on water quality and ecosystem protection
issues. Recent years have reflected heightened involvement in a broadening array
of environmental laws and regulations that include the entire scope of ecosystem
issues encompassed in watershed management planning and implementation.
