Wastewater Plant Wins National Award
Free Lance Star 7/9/2003
Stafford County's Little Falls Run Wastewater Treatment Facility was recently honored with a Platinum Peak Performance Award at the Association of Metropolitan Sewerage Agencies' 2003 National Environmental Policy Forum and 33rd Annual Meeting in Washington.
The award recognizes member agency facilities for excellence in wastewater
treatment as measured by compliance with their National Pollutant Discharge
Elimination System permits. This year's platinum award was earned by those
facilities with complete and consistent compliance with their permits over the
five-year period from 1998 through 2002.
The Little Falls Run Wastewater Treatment Facility was one of only 32 member
facilities throughout the United States to earn the platinum award.A customer
service directory that Stafford county employees use to help residents has
received an Achievement Award from the Virginia Association of Counties. The
award is part of VACo's 2003 Achievement Award Program, the association's
inaugural statewide competition honoring excellence.
"This directory allows us to supply much more information to citizens on their
first call rather than transferring them to different offices to get answers to
their questions," said County Administrator Steve Crosby in a news release. "It
is an excellent tool to help us provide high-quality customer service."
VACo received 105 entries from 26 counties in the Achievement Awards program.
Winners were selected by an independent panel of judges with expertise in county
programs and challenges. The judges were former Prince William County Supervisor
Kathleen Seefeldt; former Culpeper County Administrator Steve Miner; and Tedd
Povar of the Virginia Institute of Government. The judges selected the winning
programs based on innovation and collaboration, as well as the potential for the
program to provide a model that other local governments may learn from or
implement in their own localities.
The Customer Service Directory is a comprehensive listing of various topics,
offices, and businesses that residents frequently inquire about. The directory
is alphabetized and is 140 pages long. Each entry includes a brief description,
a "See Also" note for other references on the same topic, addresses, phone
numbers, and notes such as the responsibility of a particular office or
business. The directory is available in each county department.
