Albany Public Works Receives Honor
Albany's Public Works Department has received a Gold Peak Performance Award.
The Peak Performance Awards program sponsored by the Association of Metropolitan
Sewerage Agencies recognizes public wastewater treatment facilities for their
outstanding compliance records in 2003.
Albany's award was for achieving 100 percent compliance with the National
Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit for an entire calendar year. NPDES
permits regulate the quality of water discharged from a wastewater treatment
plant at the end of the treatment process in accordance with the Federal Clean
Water Act.
This is Albany's second award.
"The Albany Wastewater Treatment Plant is an outstanding example of
environmental efforts," said Ken Kirk, AMSA's executive director.
