BRIEFLY TREATMENT PLANT OPERATORS EARN COMMENDATION BY PEERS
Maybe it isn't the sort of thing you display prominently on the
fireplace mantel, but the city's sewage treatment plant recently won
a gold Peak Performance award from the Association of Metropolitan
Sewerage Agencies.
The award, for plant operations in 2000, means the plant operators
complied with all permit regulations for the year.
The plant, at 20015 N.E. Sandy Blvd., treats an average of 12
million gallons of waste a day from Gresham, Fairview and Wood
Village. Waste water is treated and piped to the Columbia River.
The plant is in the final stages of a $27 million expansion
project to increase its capacity to 20 million gallons a day. The
expansion is expected to give the plant sufficient capacity to serve
the city's needs for the next 12 to 15 years.
The plant is operated for the city by Operations Management
International, which runs 160 water and sewage plants around the
world. Gresham pays the company $2.3 million a year to operate the
plant.
