Flushed With Success
For all those who had to avoid the beaches this summer or were forced to pump
raw sewage out of their basements, check this out:
The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District won a Gold Peak Performance Award
this year from its trade group, the Association of Metropolitan Sewerage
Agencies, for "outstanding wastewater treatment efforts" in 2003. Yeah, they're
talking about the same MMSD that in May dumped 4.6 billion gallons of raw sewage
-- an amount of crud that would fill Miller Park 15 times over.
The same award was handed out to more than 100 other districts, including ones
in Green Bay and Racine.
Wrote the trade group's president, Ken Kirk, "We hope that your agency continues
its excellent compliance record!"
And -- get this -- MMSD lobbyist Steve Jacquart boldly predicted Monday that the
agency would be in the winner's circle again next year.
