EPA Funds Wastewater Security Tool

The Environmental Protection Agency has awarded a wastewater utility group $310,000 to develop new versions of a tool used to assess a treatment plant's vulnerability. The award was made Aug. 12 to the Association of Metropolitan Sewerage Agencies, an AMSA spokeswoman told BNA Sept. 5. AMSA released its first version of the tool, called VSAT(TM)wastewater, on July 23 for use by publicly owned wastewater utilities. The upcoming versions--known as VSAT(TM)water and VSAT(TM)water/wastewater--are intended for small and medium drinking water and joint water/wastewater utilities. The new tools are expected to be released in November, AMSA said.
