Wastewater Facility Earns Award
The Little Falls Run Wastewater Treatment Facility recently earned its sixth Gold Peak Performance Award from the National Association of Clean Water Agencies.
The award recognized the facility for 100 percent compliance with National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permits during 2005. The permits regulate the amount of pollutants that can be released into waterways without adversely affecting water quality. These materials include suspended solids, nitrogen, phosphorus and bacteria.
Representatives from the association will present this prestigious award to the Department of Utilities during the Board of Supervisors meeting at 1 p.m. Sept. 5.
Only 236 wastewater treatment facilities nationwide were
recognized with the Gold Award.
Stafford County joined National Association of Clean Water Agencies in 1998.
Since that time, the Little Falls Run Wastewater Treatment Facility has garnered
six Gold Awards, one Platinum Award and a Silver Award from the agency.
The Little Falls Run Wastewater Treatment Facility, built in 1991, is located on
Kings Highway in south Stafford. The plant is operated by 11 county employees.
