Wastewater Groups Turn to Supreme Court
WASHINGTON — Two wastewater associations have added their names
to an appeal that seeks to overturn a decision on the release of pollutants into
the Anacostia River, according to a recent report on WasteNews.com.
The National Association of Clean Water Agencies and the Wet Weather Partnership
filed a brief last week to participate in a US Supreme Court appeal brought by
the DC Water and Sewer Authority (WASA) in July, the article said.
The WASA petition stems from a DC appeals court ruling in April that declared
the total maximum load limits released into the Anacostia River must be
calculated daily and cannot be based on seasonal and annual averages, according
to the report.
WASA received the backing of the US Environmental Protection Agency, which found
that using averages for calculating pollutants adequately protected water
quality in the river, the story said.
