Legal Affairs Committee to Convene at WEFTEC
AMSA's Legal Affairs Committee is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, October 12, 1999 from 8:00 am-10:00 am during WEFTEC '99, the Water Environment Federation's 72nd Annual Conference and Exposition, in New Orleans, Louisiana. If you are planning to attend WEFTEC '99 you are invited to attend this informative breakfast meeting that is open to all AMSA member agencies and their counsels. The committee meeting will be held in Galerie 1 of the New Orleans Marriott Hotel and will focus on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) continuing programs as well as future EPA initiatives. The National Office has invited a number of EPA officials to lead the discussion. A preliminary meeting agenda is attached for your review.AMSA has reserved a small block of guest rooms at the Royal Sonesta Hotel (300 Bourbon Street) for AMSA members and counsel that are planning to attend the Legal Affairs Committee meeting. The rooms are available from Saturday, October 9, through Thursday, October 14, at the rate of $162/night. If you wish to attend the committee meeting and make your hotel reservation through AMSA, please complete the attached Response Form or contact Lisa DuBois at 202/833-3692 or ldubois@amsa-cleanwater.org. Please be sure to provide the dates you need hotel accommodations, your room preferences and a credit card number for billing purposes. To reserve a room in AMSA's block you must contact the National Office by close of business on Thursday, August 19, 1998.

Stop by and visit AMSA's booth while attending WEFTEC '99. AMSA's booth will be located in the 1100 row in the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. The Association's exhibit will highlight AMSA's member benefits, the wide-range of AMSA publications and the Clean Water on the Web site. Visitors to the booth will even have the opportunity to surf AMSA's web site and will get a special “sneak peek” at the AMSA/WERF Clean Water Central project.We hope to see you there!
Legal Seminar Planned for November
All member agency representatives, especially legal staff, should mark their calendars for AMSA/Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies' (AMWA) 1999 Legal Affairs Seminar, Developments in Water and Wastewater Law . . . A Seminar for Public Agency Attorneys. The second-annual legal seminar will be held on November 18 & 19 at the Westin Francis Marion Hotel in Charleston, South Carolina. Presentations by prominent attorneys will be featured, and attendees will be eligible to receive Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits. THE AMSA/AMWA seminar is designed to provide advice and details on the latest developments in wet weather regulations, total maximum daily loads (TMDLs), citizen suits and consent decrees.Additional information on the seminar, including registration and hotel information, will be forwarded to member representatives and agency counsels via Legal Alert in the near future.
